Who checks devices in volume

The same handful of questions come up wherever a device changes hands: is this the model it claims to be, is it clear to resell, and what is it worth. Refurbishers and resellers, trade-in and buyback operators, ITAD and recyclers, insurers handling onboarding and claims, leasing and finance, repair shops, and marketplaces all touch some version of it.

Where identification helps

Confirming make and model from the TAC is cheap, instant and offline — no network call per device. That makes it a reasonable first filter at intake: catch mislabelled units and mistyped numbers before anything more expensive happens to them.

The checksum is the other free win. A surprising share of intake problems are transcription errors, and Luhn catches every single-digit mistake and nearly every transposition at the point of entry rather than three steps downstream.

Where it does not help, stated plainly

Identification is not screening. It will not tell you whether a device is blacklisted, carrier-locked, still bound to an account, or in warranty — see what an IMEI check cannot tell you. Those answers require paid access to operator and manufacturer data, and any intake process that treats a clean identification as a clean device will eventually take in something it cannot sell.

Today: a free, ad-free, single-device lookup returning make, model and checksum validity, storing nothing about you or the numbers you enter.

Not today: there is no bulk upload and no public API. If you need to check devices by the hundred, this tool in its current form will not do it, and we would rather say so than have you discover it after signing up for something.
